Luxembourg
Civil protection and emergency management in Luxembourg are organized by the state and coordinated centrally. Since 2018, the responsibilities for fire protection, technical rescue, and prehospital emergency care have been consolidated within the Corps Grand-Ducal d’Incendie et de Secours (CGDIS). The Grand Ducal Police is responsible nationwide for maintaining public safety, preventing threats, and enforcing the law. Both organizations work closely together and form central pillars of Luxembourg’s security and emergency response system.
CGDIS (Corps Grand-Ducal d'Incendie et de Secours)
The CGDIS was founded in 2018. At that time, civil defense, municipal fire departments, the Luxembourg City Professional Fire Department, the Luxembourg Airport Fire Department, and the S.A.M.U. emergency medical service were consolidated into a single government agency. Today, the CGDIS has over 7,000 members who are responsible for fire protection, technical assistance, and emergency medical services.
In addition to CGDIS badges, this section also features patches from individual fire departments and their support associations. Other fire department-related topics are also covered here.
